Copenhagen Downtown Hostel Review (terrible)

I booked 3 nights for the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel in a private room when I was in Berlin at the same hostel chain. I really like this hostel chain, I have stayed in many all around Europe. So I typically look for them in the cities I am visiting.

I used to book through Hostel World until I found out if you book direct you get the breakfast included. So after that I started to book direct which was worth it to get some yummy breakfast included. Recently the breakfast at the hostels have just been a juice box, apple and a granola bar. I think because of the Beer Virus, but I am not sure.

One downside to booking direct is their cancellation process isn’t as smooth and easy as Hostel Worlds. I had to cancel a reservation for one in Berlin and I had to jump through a few more hoops than on Hostel World, but it was before the 24 hour cut off so was it worked out.

Unfortunately on the day I was going to Copenhagen to enjoy my stay at St. Christopher's the train from Berlin was cancelled due to wind storms. Nothing I could do, I even checked flights, but not really plausible. I went back to the hostel in Berlin and booked a couple more nights there to figure out my next steps.

I asked the reception about my stay in Copenhagen, he said well tonight you won’t get a refund but it’s still more than 24 hours before the next two nights so should be able to get a full refund for those nights and maybe a voucher for the value of the first night. But he didn’t know since the hostel chains are not connected very much, was just his assumption.

I emailed the email that was provided from the confirmation email. Saying how my train was cancelled and I can’t make it, and hopefully I can get two nights refunded. I didn’t hear back for a week or so. I followed up and their response was very quick and cold. I am paraphrasing but, “No it was within the 24 hours of your reservations therefor no funds can be refunded.”

I just would have appreciated a bit of a conversation. It was 150€ loss with no chance of a refund, as a student that isn’t an easy bill to eat. I have stayed in many locations and really enjoyed them. Unfortunately I still haven’t stayed in this location, but now I don’t really have the desire anymore.
